  • Title: multicast routing on a radio mesh
  • Location: Lille (possibility of accommodation) or telecommuting
  • Type : full time
  • Position: developer
  • Duration: internship (3-6 months) / alternation / employment
  • Reference : Offer-2023-Multicast

Nexedi has developed the re6st open source software (https://re6st.nexedi.com/) to automate the deployment of hybrid (radio + wireline) meshes with latency minimization routing and multicast features. Re6st is used as a backbone for cloud, drone swarms, 4G/5G networks. It is based on Juliusz Chroboczek's babel protocol (https://www.irif.fr/~jch/) whose RFC is now adopted at the IETF.

We are looking for developers interested in one of the following topics:

  • Integrating new tunneling protocols into re6st (FOU, wireguard, etc.)
  • Developing in babel a version of multicast optimized for radio networks
  • Combining in the same re6st network several different service terms attached to disjoint address classes
  • Strengthen bad link detection mechanisms to better cope with attacks and censorship (fair routing)

We are looking for a candidate with experience in C development, a mastery of Linux and an affinity for free software

  • Help develop an extension to re6st
  • Help to develop an extension to babel
  • Test and verify the performance of re6st with a virtual network (linux network namespaces)
  • Help deploying re6st on a large infrastructure

  • Development in C and Python
  • Contribute to complex free and open source software solutions
  • Understand multicast, the kernel network stack and learn routing (IGP routing) in detail
  • Work with real time systems
